DaVo's Vlog #5

My 5th Personal Vlog. In this one I give a Guide Tour and short history of the build and the venues located at 2307 University Ave in Des Moines. This was the location of Safari Nite Club, Hairy Mary's and currently Lefty's Live Music.

Also live music from Emily Davis and the Murder Police, Barnyard Stompers and Mountain Sprout.

Promoting Shows

Promoting Shows

DaVo as in I has been booking and promoting shows since 1996 both as an independent promoter and as an in-house talent buyer. First with Safari Nite Club from 1996 - 1998 and then with Hairy Mary's from 1998 to 2001 and again 2005-2007. Then in October of 2015 until May 2018, I worked as a talent buyer at Lefty's Live Music. Also, I did a few shows in Sioux City and Omaha.

Chapter 9 - It's Ain't Over - Lefty's Live Music

From that last day in 2007 to April of 2005, I would often drive by the building that once housed Safari and Mary's. Some nights it would be packed with drunken under age college students but especially toward the end, The Dublin would be closed or empty most night of the weeks. In early 2015, I heard that the building was up for sale and even got a phone call from a realtor asking me about the history of the building. I spent a few minutes covering the basic historic background on the building. Then went about my business thinking nothing more of it.

Chapter 08 - The post Script, the last song

With the new update of the site and the club closing I figured I should fill in the other seven years that Mary's was opened.

As stated in the last chapter, I retired in 2000 but I continued to be pulled back in for shows from time to time. One of the highlights was the TSOL in 2001. Also I continued to book my birthday shows including the Beautys.
