Now a Talent Buyer at Lefty's Live Music

August 26, 2015

I'm excited to announce that I've been hired as a Talent Buyer at Lefty's Live Music. As many of you know I have a long history of bring bands to that room that dates back to 1996. As Axiom Promotion I worked both as a independent promoter and talent buyer when it was Safari Nite Club and then Hairy Mary's. It has been a joy to see Erik and Anne bring live music back to the venue at 2307 University Ave here in Des Moines and I'm greatly looking forward to working with both of them and their staff. This will not effect the Axiom Body Piercing Studio or me piercing professionally.

For those that maybe don't know my history and the history and the history of the location, I started booking all ages show on Saturday afternoons in October of 1996. Then it was known as Safari Nite Club and was about the only club in town that offered live original music in Des Moines. The room went through a number of changes and owners over the next 11 years. First owned by Tony then Shawn from Slipknot and Jake. Then Jeff, John and Fathead bought the place and turned it into Hairy Mary's. Over those 11 years I worked as an independent promoter and in house talent buyer. Though I did take a break from it from 2001 to 2006, I was an active regular and adviser to those that took over my duties there. During my time, I worked with countless national, regional and local bands. if you are interested there is a list of most of the bands here. I was part of the spear head of increasing the number of All Ages shows during the 1990s and early 00s and helped to pioneer the all ages matinee as a standard of the local music scene.

In the near future, I will be begin to work with Erik to book and build shows. Over the last six months, Erik has done a fantastic job of bring a wide range of musical styles into the venue and I hope to compliment that and maybe expand it further. The venues that were housed at that location were known for not only bring bands to Des Moines that no one ever thought would play here but bring up and coming bands long before anyone had heard of them, I was a part of that and I will be doing that in the future. Though my first love might be Punk Rock, I've always been driven toward music that made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up and made your feet start moving and I promise to continue that.

There was always a simple war cry that drove me forward, "Make Live Music Happen Here." Over the past few months, I've gotten to know Erik and Anne, I have come to understand that they share this drive. The room is in much better shape then it was in 1996. The sound system is better, the bathrooms are cleaner, the beer selection is better and it plain simply smells better. As I stood next to my son last Saturday with the room full and the Hollowmen on stage amazing everyone. I looked around and remembered why I kept booking bands all those years and even when I swore never to do it again, I kept coming back. I turned to my son and expressed the main reason, "This is my favorite part of all of it. Standing here, watching everyone enjoying a shared experience that they will remember for their rest of their lives and knowing that I put this together." Now thanks to Lefty's, I have a chance to continue that, see old friends I haven't seen in years, make new ones, discover and rediscover great music and hopefully make the world a better place by Making Live Music Happen.

At this time, we are still working out everything but I will post contact information soon. Also if you need information about Lefty's go to http://www.leftyslivemusic.com/. I look forward to working with all the bands, enjoying music with fellow fans and just having fun.
